Heather graduated from the University of Virginia. After earning her Economics degree, she worked on a small business project for an incredible doctor in Cape Town, South Africa, which planted the seed of inspiration for her to later pursue medicine. But prior to making that jump, she worked for a lifestyle magazine in Madrid and at a technology start-up in New York City before moving back to her home state of Iowa (Go Hawks!) for medical school. At Iowa, she was again inspired by many talented doctors and became particularly interested in prenatal genetics, choosing OB/GYN for residency.
